pop-in post: 2 minute healthy chocolate mug cake

Healthy chocolate cake? Say what?! We all have cravings for chocolate and sweets sometimes, and this 2-minute mug cake is a great way to satisfy your sweet tooth without derailing your healthy diet. And it's not just an empty-calorie "skinny version" of a real mug cake... it's actually a relatively healthy and nutritious snack (made with real foods) with a nice balance of carbs, protein, healthy fat, and fiber. Oh, and antioxidants from the dark chocolate. Obviously important. So go ahead, treat yourself after dinner! Or have it for breakfast, like I may or may not have done this morning...

Just a few ingredients are needed, which you probably already have in your kitchen.

Healthy 2-Minute Chocolate Mug Cake
Adapated from The Wannabe Chef

For 1 mug cake
-1 small, very ripe banana
-2 egg whites (either separated from the yolk or from a carton) (one whole egg works here too)
-1 tbsp almond butter (or peanut butter, or any other nut butter)
-1 tbsp unsweetened apple sauce
-2 tbsp dark chocolate cocoa powder
-1 tbsp semi-sweet chocolate chips
*Optional: 1 packet splenda

-Mash the banana until it's smooth and no lumps remain. Add all other ingredients and mix VERY well (you don't want to taste chunks of cooked egg in your chocolate cake). Microwave for 2 - 2.5 minutes.

  3. I love your recipes, however, Splenda and any other fake sugar hurts my body. I added just a drop of my Stevia liquid. I grew my own plants and made this myself.

    1. Beth - sounds great! I include Splenda as "optional" because some people are fine with it, others prefer to skip it. I actually think it's sweet enough from the banana without any added sweetener :)
